OnePlus and Realme have reportedly ceased the production and sale of its smart TVs in India. The reason for the same has not been clear yet, but industry sources have claimed that both Chinese companies have decided to call it quits in the television category in India. However, there has been no confirmation or denial from either OnePlus or Realme on these reports. Hence, it should be currently taken with a pinch of salt. On the other hand, Xiaomi has been reportedly faring well in the sector.
OnePlus and Realme, primarily known to be Chinese smartphone makers, will reportedly end the production and sale of their Google TV-powered smart television sets in India. An ET Telecom report, citing industry sources, has claimed that both OnePlus and Realme have decided to move out of India when it comes to the television category. However, they will continue the smartphone production in the country.
The report has mentioned that the increasing demand for streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+ Hotstar has fuelled the demand for smart TVs in India. Most importantly, both OnePlus and Realme have listed their TVs on sale during the ongoing Amazon and Flipkart festive sale.
The current claims are surprising as both Chinese brands were performing well in the country in the smart TV sector. According to a Counterpoint Research study for 2022, OnePlus was among the fastest-growing smart TV brands last year. On the other hand, another Chinese smart device maker, Xiaomi, led India’s smart TV market in 2022.
Despite these claims, it is important to note that neither OnePlus nor Realme has accepted or refuted these reports. One can still buy the OnePlus smart TVs in India through online platforms or the company’s official website. It is yet to be seen what the companies have to say about the reports about their exit from India.
