QBE Re bolsters Bermuda division with key appointment

The Bermuda division of QBE Re has announced the appointment of Carmen DeSilva (pictured above) as vice president – specialty underwriter.

In her new role, DeSilva aims to enhance the Bermuda specialty reinsurance capabilities of QBE Re. Her responsibilities will also extend to the development of QBE Re’s global specialty offering.

As per her LinkedIn, DeSilva, who has over 15 years of experience in property and specialty underwriting, joins QBE Re from her previous roles at Platinum Underwriters and Axis Specialty.

The company’s decision to appoint DeSilva comes at a time when there is rising demand for specialty and property reinsurance in Bermuda from global clients. This move is part of QBE Re’s ongoing focus on sustainable growth while optimizing its broader portfolio, with DeSilva’s addition to the team expected to contribute significantly to these objectives.

She joins us with a diverse skillset across specialty and property fields, including underwriting, portfolio construction and client relationship management. She will play a crucial role as we look to expand our footprint on the island and evolve our offering to our global client base,” QBE Re Bermuda head Tracey Gibbons said.
